Atheists pursue redress with anti-discrimination legislation
The Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc is to complain to the
Tasmanian Anti-discrimination Commissioner following the refusal
of Metro Tasmania, a State owned bus company, to display its advertisements.
President of the Foundation, David Nicholls said: "Following
legal advice we have decided to lodge the complaint. It is unfortunate
the AFA has to go down this path to achieve justice. However,
there is no grudge involved here, just a simple matter of what
is right."
David Nicholls said atheists worldwide have an important message
for humanity and one that is quite urgent. He said the denial
of an opportunity to express that message on Public Transport
had possibly resulted from unfounded concerns in executive decision
making.
Mr Nicholls said he expected a
good outcome to the complaint and envisaged the slogan, "Atheism
- Celebrate reason! Sleep in on Sunday mornings" to soon
be on a bus near you.
Hobart lawyer James Crotty has been retained to advise on the
complaint.

L' Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc va porter plainte auprès
du commissaire chargé de la lutte contre les discriminations
de Tasmanie, à la suite du refus de Metro Tasmania, une
compagnie de bus appartenant à l'état, de diffuser
sa publicité.
Le président de la fondation, David Nicholls, a déclaré
: "Après avoir pris conseil, nous avons décidé
de porter plainte. Il est regrettable que l'Atheist Foundation
of Australia ait à employer ces moyens pour que justice
soit faite. Cependant, il n'y a là aucune rancune, seulement
le désir de faire valoir notre droit."
David Nicholls dit que les athées du monde entier ont un
message important à transmettre à l'humanité,
et que cela est urgent. Il pense que l'empêchement de transmettre
ce message sur les transports publics est sans doute le résultat
de craintes infondées de la part de la direction.
M.Nicholls espère une issue
favorable à sa plainte et pense que le slogan envisagé
"Athéisme - Célébrez la raison ! Faites
la grasse matinée le dimanche matin" sera bientôt
sur un bus qui passera près de chez vous.

conseil.
